Online Roundtable Discussion to Commemorate the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and when Conducive to Terrorism

The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) held a capacity-building workshop from 1 to 3 February 2023 in Chisinau, Moldova, to improve the ability of local law enforcement officials to handle bomb alert cases.

The training provided a comprehensive overview of theoretical and practical methodologies adopted by other countries to assess risk, establish a reliable alert system, and streamline standard operating procedures.

On 26 and 27 January 2023, the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) held a two-day workshop in Rabat to consult with Moroccan authorities in charge of preventing and combating the threats stemming from potential chemical weapons attacks conducted by violent non-state actors. The workshop was conducted within the framework of the project “ATLAS – Preventing non-state actors from planning and carrying out chemical weapons attacks through intelligence-led operations”.  

On 19 January 2023, within the framework of the European Union’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence (EU CBRN CoE) Initiative, the Regional Secretariat for Central Asia held a meeting to discuss the development of the draft Chemical Safety Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The meeting was part of the technical advisory activities requested by our partner country, the Republic of Uzbekistan, to support the elaboration of this new law.

On the margins of the Ninth Review Conference of the Biological Weapons Convention, Japan, Lao PDR, the Philippines, the European Union and UNICRI delivered a joint side event showcasing “Efforts to Strengthen the Implementation of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) in Southeast Asia”. The event was facilitated by Mr. Hirochika Namekawa, Counsellor of the Delegation of Japan to the Conference on Disarmament.

On 14 December 2022, the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) celebrated the fifth anniversary since it established its Centre for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics in The Hague.  

UNICRI and the European Union Counter-Terrorism Coordinator (EU CTC) held a closed online expert-level meeting to discuss security threats in Afghanistan and their implications for Central Asia and beyond on 1 December 2022.
