The Government of the Philippines and United Nations entities on 24 October signed the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for 2024 to 2028.
On 24-25 June 2024, UNICRI held an in-person, two-day workshop in Astana to consult with the national agencies of the Republic of Kazakhstan in charge of preventing and combating the illicit trafficking of radiological and nuclear (RN) material. The workshop was conducted within the project “CONTACT – Enhancing capacities to prevent the trafficking of radiological and nuclear material in Central Asia”, launched at the end of 2023.

The 21st Regional Strategic Coordination Meeting of National Focal Points for Central Asia (CA) convened in Astana, Kazakhstan, bringing together key stakeholders to advance regional cooperation in the field of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) safety and security.
The meeting was organized by the European Union’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence (EU CBRN CoE) and hosted by its Regional Secretariat for Central Asia (CA).
The experience of UNICRI in supporting Member States to build effective rehabilitation programmes for violent extremists has highlighted the need to further enhance reintegration measures within and beyond custodial settings.
Since 2012 UNICRI has been supporting Member States, upon request, in their efforts to build effective rehabilitation programmes for violent extremist offenders (VEOs) to ensure that prisons are not serving as hotbeds of radicalization.
Cooperation with Member States (Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Mali, Morocco, the Philippines and Thailand) has been established to develop different rehabilitation pathways according to the local context and needs.
In late 2022, the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) launched a two-year project aimed at building gender-sensitive resilience to violent extremism in the Sahel, supported by the generous contribution of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
