The Inter-Arab Nuclear Detection and Response Exercise Falcon
The United Arab Emirates will host the first Inter-Arab Nuclear Detection and Response Exercise FALCON, that will take place in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) on 23-25 February 2016, which aims at promoting regional approaches in matters of nuclear detection and response, enhancing national and regional interagency coordination and cooperation, and encouraging information sharing.
Workshop in Lisbon to promote international dialogue and knowledge exchange on urban resilience
An expert workshop on the 1755 Lisbon Earthquake and urban resilience development took place on 20 November, hosted by the Municipality of Lisbon. The aim of the workshop was to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, best practices and lessons learned at international level in the area of risk management and urban resilience, especially those related to earthquake and other types of natural disasters.
A seminar on Local Emergency Planning, organized by the Lisbon Municipal Civil Protection Services, took place on 14 October in Lisbon, Portugal.
The seminar, which was opened by Mr. Carlos Manuel Castro, Councillor for Security and Civil Protection, of the Municipality of Lisbon, aimed at discussing the role of local governments and communities in urban security and civil protection as well as sharing experiences in local emergency planning.

Strengthening the ethical and human rights component of the drug control initiatives is at the basis of the collaboration that UNICRI has established with the Ministry of Health, since 1991 and, more recently, with the Department for Drug Policy of its Host Country, Italy, to develop tools and instruments for professional knowledge sharing. This includes the establishment of a clearinghouse on drug prevention and related social phenomena, the publishing of a specialized scientific journal, and an advanced training programme for continuing education in drug prevention and control.
The maintenance of an adequate security governance capacity today represents a significant challenge. Analyses of the different security risks, threats and vulnerabilities we all potentially face on a daily basis is becoming ever more complex and the cost of implementing effective prevention strategies and having robust response options prepared continues to rise - unfortunately in a climate of ongoing reductions in governmental spending on public sector security governance capacity.
